Charlotte Eggleston-Johnstone

Quintessent

After I completed my English Language degree at Kings College London, I kicked my career off (proper) in a substantive PR and comms role for The Big Lunch, a campaign led by the Eden Project. I sourced, interviewed and wrote dozens of case studies and blogs; created and managed the social media strategy; looked after parts of the website; and liaised with MPs’ offices, local councils and other community-focused stakeholders.

Shortly after, I completed my NCTJ diploma in Multimedia Journalism at News Associates in Manchester where I studied media law, public affairs, shorthand (100wpm) and ethics.

Since then, I have had bylines in local, regional and national publications. I’ve written and managed content for website pages, articles, blogs and newsletters. I’ve undertaken big commercial copywriting projects for clients in the travel industry. I’ve commissioned, edited and published hundreds of editorial hotel reviews and hotel guides for Telegraph Travel, working closely with the commercial SEO team. I have also written numerous round-ups and features, many of which have been printed.

In 2023 I decided to leave The Telegraph and (finally) spread my wings as a freelance copywriter and editor. Quintessent is a name I inherited from my mother’s consultancy business after she retired, so it means a lot to be able to carry the mantle forth. When I’m not working on the latest project, I can be found planning my next adventure, meticulously crafting greeting cards, and playing kissy-faces with my baby daughter.
